Alumni Analyzer was created in response to the need of Canadian research institutions to demonstrate value from the role they play in training undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs (commonly known as ‘highly qualified personnel’) in research.
The research experience provides these students and postdocs with the advanced skills needed throughout the modern economy.
Such training, in addition to the value of the research itself, is part of the rationale for their funding. But it has been typically very difficult to gather comprehensive data on alumni careers to provide objective evidence that supports compelling stories about the value of the training in research.
We pioneered methods to find and extract alumni career data. With each study, we have improved our methods, by accelerating data collection and analysis, by deepening the analysis to extract further insights, or demonstrating methods of benchmarking the results.
The result is a service that is truly unique, helping institutions measure their performance, recruit students, leverage the resources of their alumni network, attract funding, and even make decisions about curriculum to better prepare students for the careers they will most likely pursue.
Our clients comprise higher education institutions and major research facilities, including recruitment offices, alumni offices, employment offices, and corporate services focused on measuring and demonstrating impact.
Dr. Banks is a strategic thinker behind planning and implementation of scientific initiatives, from background research and developing a vision, to engaging stakeholders with strategic communications and measuring performance and impacts.
He has led or advised on strategic initiatives by five university clients that aim to acquire more than $250M in funding for major research infrastructure projects and operations.
He has authored dozens of data-supported performance reports, business plans and briefing notes for federal government agencies and stakeholders, resulting in multimillion-dollar grant applications.
While working in specialized scientific consulting services, Dr. Banks co-developed Alumni Analyzer, with a distinctive goal to help academic and research facilities access the abundant online career data that remains largely untapped.
